Kira Day
BA (Hons), BSc (Hons), Dip.

Since taking A-level Psychology, I have always had a fascination with how people think, behave, and what motivates them, particularly in relation to criminal behaviour. After completing my first Criminology degree, I gained valuable practical experience working in Neighbourhood Policing, and putting theory in to practice. I then made the decision that working in the field of rehabilitation and helping people to change was my calling, so joined the Probation Service. I trained and studied for a further two years to complete a degree in Community Justice Studies, Diploma in Probation Studies, and NVQ L4 in Offender Management . Over the years I have continued to work closely with all Criminal Justice Agencies, and I am a true advocate of the multi-agency approach, sharing best practice and continuous professional development. As practitioners, we can only achieve this by learning from experienced individuals that have lived and breathed those roles. KDay Consultancy is the product of my passion for ensuring we can all develop our skills to work with flexibility, knowledge and integrity within, and alongside the Justice System. I am extremely proud to join with a range of expert practitioners that I have worked with over the years. Together, we bring a vast range of knowledge and experience. This enables us to design and deliver quality bespoke training , rehabilitative and behaviour change interventions to Service Users, and consultancy services.

My Experience

Policing

Working as a Police Community Support Officer for nearly three years, I gained valuable insight and experience of Neighbourhood Policing. Whilst providing a visible presence and reassurance in the Community, resolving low level crime and anti-social behaviour, and liaising with local agencies such as the Community Safety Partnership, I also managed and coordinated local events, undertook crime analysis to target resources, and built strong relationships with schools and the Youth Offending Team. Using my academic background, I designed and implemented projects that aimed to divert young people away from the Criminal Justice System. I maintained links with Southampton University, delivering a Criminology lecture on Neighbourhood Policing and presenting within the force.

Awards

My contribution to Neighbourhood Policing was recognised in a Local Area Committee award for 'work benefiting the community' presented by the mayor of Eastleigh.

Probation and Rehabilitation

I have worked in the field of Risk Management and Rehabilitation for 11 years in a number of roles (Probation Officer/MOJ Offending Behaviour Accredited Programmes Facilitator/Health Trainer Manager). My career includes time in the Young Adult Offending Team, the Drug Rehabilitation Requirement team, and the Court Team, as well as working with a range of individuals in generic teams. I am highly experienced at contributing to multi-agency forums within this field. Within the Drug Rehabilitation Requirement team I developed the Service Level Agreement in consultation with stakeholders and instigated a number of service improvements by working with partnership agencies. As a Probation Officer in the Court team for nearly three years, I wrote pre-sentence reports, trained colleagues on the latest sentencing legislation, and frequently presented to the Court.

Within the case management role, I delivered and designed targeted work and interventions to Service Users in order to reduce risk of harm and re-offending. In addition, I managed the Probation Health Trainer Service for over a year, instigating service improvements and working with stakeholders and the commissioner to ensuring the service met contractual targets. I have completed over 70 courses as part of my continuous professional development, and finally moved in to delivering Ministry of Justice offending behaviour group-work programmes two years ago, within the field of Domestic Violence and Abuse. This is (NOMs National Offender Management Service) accredited. Other experience includes:

- Training Delivery

- Due diligence work such as a mini inspection

- Reviewing organisational policy as a member of the Probation Equality Panel and proposing recommendations to eliminate discrimination.

Awards

- Nominated for an award (Interventions category) at the National Probation Awards for my work in the Health Trainer Manager role

-Nominated for a Butler Trust Award

- Received a 'changing lives' award in the Probation staff awards

Operations and Contract Management

In 2017, I was appointed as Operations Manager for The Young People's Wellbeing Service. This enabled me to build on my management and leadership skills at an organisational level, and work strategically with other stakeholders to improve the health and wellbeing of young people in the local community. Engaging in quarterly contract meetings with funders to ensure quality of service delivery, managing around 20 staff in a variety of roles, running regular Trustee Meetings, reviewing Policy (such as safeguarding) and ensuring these are adopted in practice were all part of the role. I am currently non-executive director for YPWS. Over the last 5 years I have worked in the private sector in Operations and Contract Management. This role has involved working with UK Police Forces, Probation, charities and Police Crime Commissioners to implement Out of Court Resolutions and reparative interventions.  This has been a varied role which has included bid-writing and business development, stakeholder engagement, programme management and quality assurance activity.
